As the work on the building progressed, the Quella’s began to think about how to maximize the impact of Bob's House in the community. One community outreach program will target local nursing homes and assisted-living facilities. Volunteers will go out in pairs with two dogs and will spend at least an hour letting the seniors and dogs interact in a controlled environment. The Quella’s would also like to encourage teenage volunteers to participate in this outreach program giving both the young volunteers and the seniors the opportunity to interact on a personal level. Consistent scheduling will provide the resident’s with something to look forward to by providing concrete dates for each visit.
People who have seen dogs and senior residents interact will immediately recognize the positive impact a program like this will have. The dogs, hand picked based on behavior and temperament, will also benefit by receiving additional socialization. This will be very rewarding for all those involved.
Several facilities have already been contacted and all have agreed to participate. Mega Holiday store has graciously volunteered to provide the fuel for this outreach program and we extend our heartfelt thanks for their generosity.
